This might explain some of the differences in the two stories. Disney has been known to release films offering criticism of some of the foundational beliefs of Christianity, for example, in the lion king, Disney seems to encourage children to look for redemption not in God’s love and mercies but in themselves (within) this is evidenced by Simba’s father’s statement to him “you have forgotten who you are, look within you”.

While the bible teaches forgiveness, it is obvious from the lion king that his uncle (although seeking forgiveness from Simba) was evil and wanted Simba’s throne. Simba seemed to have forgiven his uncle but then when he turned his back, his uncle attacked him inorder to destroy him, this led to Simba fighting back – this might be seen as a defiance of God’s will.

Israel did not ask for God to adopt her so it is inappropriate to chastise her as a whore. Although always inappropriate to address someone as a whore, Israel never asked to be taken in as a special people for generations to come. However, some will argue against this as they asked for help. Despite the position one takes on this, it can be agreed upon that in the metaphor of an adopted child God used in His anger is quite shocking when paired with whore. Israel was promised to be a great nation back in Abraham’s time so the Israelites never had the chance to ask first if this was what they wanted.…

Throughout the history of mankind, people have found comfort in relinquishing their knowledge and understanding of the world to something that exists beyond themselves. It is natural for a community to find solace in a power that they accept as something impossible to fully understand, so they can categorize what they don’t know as something under the reign of some supreme belief or being. In Disney’s The Lion King, religion is reflected in the moral, ethical, and spiritual guidance that the animals follow. The creation of this religion stems from what is best for the community.…

In “The Landlady”, Billy Weaver is lured into a seemingly normal bed and breakfast by an old lady who, despite her gentle and unthreatening appearance, wants to kill him. It is a story about how those with cruel intent may take advantage of those who are innocent and naive. Although the book and the movie can be arguably similar if generalized, there are many differences that may change the way a reader/viewer may grasp the concept of the story. Since a movie and book cannot be exactly the same, the film version is bound to have things that differ from the text.
