Engaging in the process of being a transformational leader is challenging. It takes market foresight, internal and external environmental considerations, and guts to execute normative solutions that are often times risky for the organization. Any time a leader diverges from the status quo they take some sort of a risk of the plan backfiring and having a negative change. This is why being a transformational leader is so challenging. Quite often they are executing something for the very first time – maybe for the first time within the entire industry. Frankly, engaging in the process of being a transformational leader exists within a reality that is largely defined by high risk and high reward decision-making. The decisions that end up panning out, however, can literally cause positive organizational transformation or lead to organizational sustainability within an ever-changing economic and political landscape. It is the day-to-day and the face-to-face element of the manager-employee and employee-employee relationship dynamic. This element is crucial to the realization of implementing a vision because the successful management of emotional labor means that the relationships between manager and employee are on good terms. This fosters better workplace attitudes and willingness for change across the board. A transformational leader cannot ignore the reality that their success relies heavily on the fact of managing emotions in the workplace. Without this key skill, leaders will struggle to implement any change because the bulk of the work lands on the laps of subordinates. Employees are usually the ones who are directly dealing with clients, customers, or in this case – students.
