into the person I am today. Though I got through it all, I lacked someone who was there
for me in a way that I needed one to be. Instead I turned to acting and art as an escape. I
believe that they are both two very powerful “tools” that can help one build towards their
true happiness. To be able to reach out to people and let them express themselves in a
way that helped me very much is my dream. I want to become a creative arts therapist,
specifically for children between the ages of five and fifteen.

therapist must know is to try and separate his or her personal life with work.
The duties as a creative arts therapist is to create a well structured environment
where your clients feel like they can relax and open up about their pain. On
psychologytoday.com, Cathy Malchiodi writes, “Art therapy is the prescribed use of
visual arts materials and media in intervention, counseling, psychotherapy, and
rehabilitation; it is used with individuals of all ages, families, and groups (Edwards, 2004;
Malchiodi, 2012).” My job is to listen to them and encourage my clients to feel
comfortable enough to be themselves. The workplace/studio for an arts therapist should
stay as simple as possible. This meaning, minimum colors and paintings for example. But
still for it to be a place where one can feel at home.
The process of becoming a creative arts therapist is not something that just
happens over night, even though you may have the skill for it. In order to get my license
there are many steps I would have to go through first. I would need to get my masters in
Creative Arts Therapy, and that is just the start. My dream includes opening my
