Who were their parents and what is the story of how each of these Gods came to be? The parents of the gods were Cronus and Rhea. Together Cronus and Rhea had six children. Cronus was afraid that his children would kill him the same way he killed his father. So to stop this from happening he ate each of his children after they were born. When the sixth child was born Rhea came up with a plan to save her baby. Her plan was to to take a rock the size of the baby and wrap it in a blanket. She was important to farmers and women. The symbols of Demeter are a mature women and sheaves of grain. Thesmophoria was a festival dedicated to demeter for only women. This festival was celebrated throughout Greece. During the festival women would sacrifice pigs to Demeter. On the second day of the festival the women would fast. Finally on the final day they would have a huge feast.
Hera was the wife and sister of Zeus. Hera is the goddess of weddings and marriage. She is also the queen of the gods. The Heraia was a festival dedicated to Hera. Similar to the Olympic games it had athletic events and was held at Olympia. Only women were allowed to compete at the Heraia.
Hestia was the Goddess of hearth, family, and domestic life. She was the first child born and also the first to be eaten by Cronus, also making her the last to be regurgitated making her the youngest daughter.She was one of the three virgin goddesses. Hestia made an oath to Zeus to stay pure. Hestia is not very significant in greek mythology.
