The Abrahamic Faiths
Abrahamic religions are monotheistic religions that involve only one God. These religions include Judaism (Jews), Christianity (Christians), and Islam (Muslims) and all trace their origins back to their father founder Abraham. God had a very close relationship with Abraham and “promised him his descendants would ultimately comprise many nations” (Global Education Source, 275). The chronological order of founding is Judaism (1st millennium BCE), Christianity (1st century CE), and Islam (7th century CE). The purpose of this research is to discuss three similarities among these branches of the Abrahamic religions. These monotheistic faiths, all follow their respective holy books, worship days, and founding father.
The Jews holy book is the Torah also known as the Pentateuch. This book is composed of “five books that are believed to be the inspired word of God as told through Moses.” (Monotheistic Religions, 9). The Christians practice out of the Bible which is divided into two testaments. The Old Testament is the original first division Hebrew Bible. Judaism celebrates “Sabbath” which is the seventh day of the week in “Fulfillment of the biblical commandment” (Shabbat Customs, 1). There worship day beings on Friday evening to Saturday. The worship days of Christianity are on Sundays while for Muslims Fridays are the congregation’s prayer days. When comparing Judaism and Islam “worship beings on the eve of the actual day” (Monotheistic Religions, 16). All three monotheistic faiths have daily readings that come from prayer books and/or holy books. Though many people have their own personal relationship with God, these books are resources and tools to help those people worship and communicate with God in their own
