According to the Death Penalty Information Center, the first day to abolish the death penalty was Michigan. As stated by the Washington Post, there are nineteen states plus the district of Columbia without the death penalty. The death penalty is a growing controversial issue, and should be abolished completely. Along with it being a controversial issue, there is a major money issue that comes along with it. Death penalty Information Center conducted some research, and a single case in Texas cost taxpayers $2.3 million. This is much more of a financial burden than life without parole. As a result of this, inevitably taxpayers will collectively will pay millions for the death penalty. The death penalty should be completely abolished because solitary confinement is a better solution, it is more torturous and effective, and is a good way to put a halt to crimes.
