Wesley is a calm and intelligent man who shares his love of books with his son that he loves unconditionally. Wesley is often restrained from being himself as his wife, Ruth, starts to complain about his life choices. Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird, is a father of two children, Scout and Jem. Atticus is well respected lawyer and citizen in Maycomb, Alabama. He is an intelligent and patient man who has good morals and values, he that individual where one can turn to in difficult situations. Charlie often relates his father to Atticus Finch, he sees him as sensible and logical as he describes, “But in order to be useful to Jasper, I had to be even-handed and logical, like Atticus, like my dad” (Silvey, 189), when referring to what he has to become. Both characters are intelligent, strong in their own way and have a great sense of justice. They stand up for what they think is right in crucial times. However, what is different between the two is that Wesley does not often stand up for himself especially when up against his wife just as what Charlie says when he saw the exchange between his parents earlier in the
