Essay: Collage Analysis

Collage is a work of art that is made by attaching pieces of different materials such as paper, cloth, or wood to a flat surface.
The content developing is a way to learn the different forms of art terminology. My selections were driven by my passion for the outdoors, traveling and scuba diving.
In my collage, I’ve used examples of foreshortening, outline, contour, and implied lines, repetition, triangle and square shapes, still life, pattern, stereoscopic view, vanishing point, negative space, atmospheric perspective, hatching and a variety of texture.
Examine the picture closely, and you will discover multiple layers of meaning. Peace. Serenity. Contentment. A mixture of all of these creates the unmatched feeling that overwhelms me when I’m

The jukebox is an example of axonometric projection and my love for music.
I like how the cats positive space is added to the stereoscopic view at the bottom center of the collage.
In the center is the focal point with a foreshortening sea anemone and the ocean has implied lines of a circle that I visualize as the earth.
The seahorse and taco on the right panel of the collage is an example of outline. The starfish on the right gives a sense of three-dimension with texture and shape. The bottom left corner has repeating triangle shapes with the table and chairs forming a vanishing point to the window. The three figures to the left are a positive space jumping for joy. The bridge above them has a textured brick wall and a vanishing point into the sunset. Above the jukebox is a window with repeating squares that only shows darkness. The top, center sunset on the beach has possibly a pier that forms a vanishing point to the sky and the surfers fun on the beach has come to an end. The fireworks on the top, right corner illuminate the sky causing the buildings to look like shadows.
These symbols and objects show up in my life on scuba dive vacations around the world. I added the taco which is my favorite

On the bottom right, there is an area of a teal color. On the top right, there is a large yellow dot. Around that dot, it fades from black to white like on the bottom left. Over the entire piece there are red zig-zagged lines. The elements most obvious in my work are color, line, shape and value.…

The Green Bridge II The Green Bridge II, by Lyonel Feininger, in 1916. It is an asymmetrical abstract piece made from oil paint on a canvas. Within the painting, there are three-dimensional objects, which would appear to tell a story. What appears a very busy street loitered with many people, walking to or from somewhere. The appearance of the buildings, surroundings, and the people are not normal, they have a really blocky or distorted appearance.…

When I write,I try to capture in words, the half etched thoughts, the unformed silences ,the vaguely understood swirl of emotions all entangled with and undifferentiated from the chaotic images that flash and disappear. When I visualize, I try to capture,in images this time, those half etched thoughts, those unformed silences, those vaguely understood swirls of emotions entangled with and undifferentiated from the chaotic words that flash and disappear. An image, that has never been a word before except vaguely, while it was evolving in the mind, or, a word that has been an image only in the same conditions, stands by itself as the first representation of a reality(or fantasy) that has till then seen only the world of the mind from which it evolved. It is individualistic, unique and beyond judgement , like a new born baby.…

Science and the arts have been intertwined for a long time and have more in common than one would think. Both science and art are human attempts to understand and describe the world around us. Mediums, methods, and intended audiences are different, but the motivations and goals are essentially the same. The artist who mix their own paint, study the effects of color and learn how to perceive light is considered scientist. Through humans scientific understanding is as extravagant as it has ever been, there are many artists who continue to use their knowledge to break new ground with their work.…

In Jamaica Kincaid's introductory paragraph she explores what her reality would be like as a tourist in her home country. As she describes this to the reader (who is the audience) she shows how terrible the tourist can be to the island and how different and unwanted the tourist often is. In this piece, the author expresses a critical tone towards tourists through the use of imagery, parallel sentence structure, and the connotation of her words.…

Like they have very little . The baroque style is essentially " abundant " , both in art as in literature , with rindondanze , exaggerated , deep marking , while the Renaissance denotes the discovery of so-called "royalties " style , perspective , proportion , a conception of art as portrait of man and for man . You could start doing examples in art ( I know , a picture of Botticelli with some baroque opera ) , and then expands and develops the concept .…

Imagery is the use of strategic language to represent thing, actions and thoughts in a way that is able to appeal to ones senses. An amazing use of imagery was the death Myrtle. During her death it seemed as if the world had stopped spinning and time had stop ticking. Everything was paused and put in slow motion. The scene includes make up on her face and parts of her body to show the bruises and blood that flowed out of her dismantled body.…

In the Pre-K classroom that I observed it consisted of several different centers for the children to participate in, such as: block area, dramatic play, art, library, sand/water table, music/movement, sensory area, finger painting, play dough, and the students got the opportunity to make their own snacks. Not only did the students get to participate in centers, they had the opportunity each day to go outside and play on the playground as well as having an interactive lecture every morning at circle time and when the students sat down at their tables to do their daily worksheet. I believe that the Pre-K class I observed was a mix between traditional teaching as well as constructivism, creating a balance between the two. In the morning during circle time, the teacher would “lecture” the students with the letter of the day, go over the date, months, days of the week, shapes, and the numbers up to the date it currently was.…

Not only does this show dimension, but it also shows the perspective of the artist. A principle used is movement; for this artwork the movement goes from the bottom left of the canvas where the chairs and tables are made bigger to seem like they’re closer to the viewer. It then moves along with the way the tables are set: along the side of the walls towards the back of the room on the right (up the left side of the canvas) then across the back (from left to right at the top of the canvas) and lastly, down the right wall with more tables. In the center of the room is the billiard table, and to keep it from intruding the movement, a large space is left between the tables and the billiard tables. Another principle…

I decided to chose Object 1: Vincent van Gogh, Café Terrace at Night, 1888, oil on canvas, KröllerMuller Museum, Otterlo for my design summary/formal analysis. Two elements utilized in this piece of art are texture and color. Texture is the surface quality of a work (Dewitte, Larmann, Shields 62). Color is the optical effect caused when reflected white light of the spectrum is divided into a separate wavelength (Dewitte, Larmann, Shields 92). Implied Texture is displayed throughout this canvas.…

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Henry Dorely Zoo Aquarium. This aquarium, located in Omaha, Nebraska, may be just about as far away from the ocean as it gets, but thanks to taxes and donations, everyone in this land-locked region can get a look at coasts around the world. And because this particular aquarium is the largest aquarium found in a zoo, there is a lot to see. Featured here are eleven exhibits, including the Open Oceans exhibit, and a Cold Pacific Oceans exhibit, as well as the Shark Reef, Ocean Drifters, and Coral Reef displays. The aquarium building, which is open year-round, doesn’t appear to be much from the outside.…

Throughout this course I have gained more of an appreciation for artwork and the artists that create them. I have also gained an appreciation for the people that try to define what art is in general or more specifically what makes good art. We have read great thinkers and their philosophies on this, and the fact that even people of such great intelligence can disagree on the subject proves how challenging it can be. By reading the opinions of these great thinkers, and by discussing their thought with our class, I feel I am in a much better place as to define what makes good art myself. I define art as anything created by someone that inspires another to appreciation.…
