Essay Are We Naturally Good Or Bad

Human nature is the idea that humans share certain behavioral traits such as being good or evil. The article “Are we naturally good or bad?” relates to “Lord of the Flies” in that they both portray the idea of human nature. We don’t know if the traits we possess are something we learn overtime, or if they are something we are born with. The article, “Are we naturally good or bad?”, explores this question more in depth. “Fundamentally speaking, are humans good or bad? It's a question that has repeatedly been asked throughout humanity. For thousands of years, philosophers have debated whether we have a basically good nature that is corrupted by society, or a basically bad nature that is kept in check by society,” says the article. Good behavior is often encouraged and expressed during infancy. We are born a blank slate, but day by day as we are nurtured and loved, we develop, our brains are enhanced, and we grow smarter. By the time infants are able to perform the test in the article, “Are we naturally good or bad?”, themselves, they have already been exposed to a nurturing, safe, and warm environment, so they are most likely to choose the friendly item. In my opinion, this study is flawed and methodologically defective. There are too many variables in the experiment, there is not much control, and there are assumptive and biased choice processes. I think the test results from an experiment like this wouldn’t be evident or conclusive enough to prove a solid argument. Overall, I do not think this study is cruel to infants, or could result in cruelty, as it is a fun and interactive experiment. But, I do not know how much I believe that infants are naturally able to select benevolent objects over inconsiderate ones without already experiencing the affectionate environment of their loved
