Against the death penalty When the death penalty is introduced, many complications arise. A few complications include accidental death, it is the easy way out, race and social status determines who lives and who dies, and it gives offenders publicity. Though many people will say that we need the death penalty to give closure to victims, there are still the people that slip through the cracks, such as the people that make headlines after it is too late, or the ones getting too much publicity. The death penalty is wrong. We never know the full situation, and playing God could get us, as a nation, to be seen as murderers. Many victims want justice for the crimes committed against them, but how do you punish for psychological damage, including the nightmares, the trust issues, the self-blaming, and feeling that their body betrayed them in the reaction that it gave(joyfullheartfoundation.org). Getting the death penalty is too easy. They live in jail where they can boast about what they did to the victim, where they see what happened as a good thing while the victim is living in that moment repeatedly. Once the crime had been committed against the victim, they may never be the same, as they may forever be affected by what has happened to them. The nation is now fascinated with serial killers, mass murders, and other dramatized criminal cases. Honestly, society does not realize that the shows are realistic fiction. They are fake, though based off real events. Charles Manson, Jeffrey Dahmer, Ted Bundy, and Jack the Ripper are now household names because a Majority of Americans think that it is cool to see these shows and glorify the villains.
