I think reconstruction can be categorized in each range of human behavior.The behaviors of anonymity, shame and humiliation, bystander, and dehumanization play a major part in the reconstruction of the country after the civil war. Although it was a both a failure and success in their own ways, it was just the beginning of Civil Rights movements, whether you were in the North or South. Reconstruction failed because there was so much corruption and violence which would lead to hate groups like the Ku Klux Klan being formed and the rise of white supremacy. People were “separate but equal” because of the Plessy v Ferguson court decision which would lead to segregation. People who didn’t speak up because they were scared, also known as bystanders

It has given us some of the best presidents and some of the best leaders in the world. I think the only problem with democracy is that we don’t hold people responsible for their actions. Everyone likes the right to vote, freedom of speech, or just rights that are taken for granted but don’t want to be held for the actions of their choices. We all want the perks of it and we take these perks for granted. The hardworking immigrants that want these liberties that don’t get them are the reason why democracy doesn’t work. We are supposed to be the land of the free, but we’re not free at all. We are the country that people come to because they want to better themselves. The democracy that we have today is not what our Founding Fathers wanted. We have a democracy that is corrupted by the rich where the poor and working class suffer. We have people that are supposedly here for the people but are just in it for themselves. With President Trump I believe this will be the time we realize how fragile democracy really is. We can see it in his decisions (which I won’t go into full detail with because that will take up two more pages filled with my opinions) which are supposed to benefit the people but cause more harm than good (according to the news and other resources). In my opinion that isn’t democracy at all. Democracy is so fragile because it’s how citizens made it. We lost the values that our country was made on and it has changed the country
