• Erythromycin stearate was used for erythema annulare centrifugum (EAC) which is an inflammatory dermatosis with unknown etiology. In other words, it is a rare skin rash.
• This article had several components that represented the nursing process in administration of this anti-infective medication by utilizing assessment, plan, and evaluation. First, the researches assessed the patients” medical history such as previous trauma or other medications that they have taken prior. They also assessed the skin and took photos of the initial lesions to be able to track progress. This small action is essential because it assists with the overall plan of care for the patients. • In the article it mentions that there were no serious side effects. It also stated that there was still some itching and hyperpigmentation after the study. However, three individuals out of the eight did have a recurrence of EAC, but was again treated with erythromycin. The article does not mention any nursing considerations.
• The information that was most interesting was that all eight patients who had EAC were only treated for two weeks and made a significant recovery. I believe by administering erythromycin it changed these individuals lives, because in the article it states that these individuals have tried other treatments but were unsuccessful in treating their EAC. Furthermore, it was interesting because by doing this study the researchers were able to find a cure for this rare skin
