The disease of the integumentary system discussed in this essay is called Erysipelas. Erysipelas is a disease of the skin that causes lard raised patches of red skin that is usually on the face or legs, and coupled with severe fever and general illness. It is caused by a bacterial infection, and can be treated by antibiotics given to the patient by a doctor.

There are a number of symptoms that can be attributed to Erysipelas. Typically, someone suffering from Erysipelas will develop a fever, a red swollen and painful area of skin with a raised edge, blisters on the affected area, and swollen glands. With cases of Erysipelas that include the face, the affected area usually will include the nose and cheeks.
