After the surgery, you will receive medication if you need it for pain.
By the end of the surgery, you may be given an epidural to help block the nerves to help with the pain when waking up from the surgery.
An epidural is “an injection of a local anesthetic into space outside the dura mater of the spinal cord in the lower back region to produce loss of sensation especially in the abdomen or pelvic region” (Merriam-Webster, n.d.).
If given an epidural catheter, this will for at least 48 hours.
