Epidural Block Group Case Study

Results: Recovery and ambulation time were less in the epidural block and spinal groups. So the length of stay in the recovery room and in the hospital was smaller in the epidural block group. This is important since the patient can readily return to her family and social environment and can decrease the cost of the procedure, although this was not specifically assessed in this study. Post-operative pain was compared at the time 0,1, 2, 4 and 8 hr by using VAS. There was statistically and clinically significant difference in group II and III compared to the group I where majority of patients scored 3 or more in group I indicating more pain rather than the other groups. At the time (immediately after finishing surgery) 14 patients (70%) in group II and 15 patient (75%) in group III scored 0 and 6 patient (30%) in group II, 5 patients (25%) in group III scored 1, compared to 10 patients (50%) scored 3, 7 patients (39%) scored 4 and 3 patients (15%) scored 5 in group I. …show more content…

The article that I choose was called “Targeted Temperature Management at 33°C versus 36°C after Cardiac Arrest”. The objective of the article was to find at which temperature was it better to induce hypothermia on a patient who had gone into cardiac arrest in an out-of-hospital scenario to prevent neurological damage and the. The researchers hoped that if by inducing hypothermia early on after the cardiac arrest and loss of consciousness there would be little to no brain damage. The researchers believed that in order to get a better understanding of cooling temperatures the patients were to be randomly assigned a cooling temperature either at 33 ° C or at 36 °C group. From there a set of test would be preformed to gather data on which group…

To avoid seasonality that might bias the results, each OMS was randomly assigned to enter data for one month during the 12-month study period between June, 2011 and May, 2012. Participants were required to enter data for the all eligible patients during the month that they were assigned. To be eligible for study enrollment, the OMS participants had to: 1) be an AAOMS member and agree to participate in a P-BRN sponsored by AAOMS and submit required data to the AAOMS national data repository for all patients for whom they performed an operative procedure in an outpatient setting, 2) be in private practice based in the United States, 3) deliver anesthesia in the office-based ambulatory setting. Exclusion criteria for OMSs samples were: 1) full- or part-time…

CRNAs provide a form of anesthesia to countless different types of procedures from a massive open heart surgery to an epidural or spinal block. They work in a very wide variety of situations, but two procedures a nurse anesthetist may perform several times a day would be epidurals and intubations. An epidural is normally given to a woman who is in labor. With this particular type of anesthesia, the patient will stay awake. Before having the the epidural inserted, the patient’s lower back will be sanitized.…

Role of Anesthesiologists: Perioperative surgical home is a physician led, team based coordinated care and Anesthesiologists are better positioned to lead this team as they are uniquely qualified, has medical knowledge in all disciplines related to surgical care process. Because of the skill and knowledge in areas of preoperative, intraoperative as well as post-operative aspects they can provide single continuum of care rather than conventional methods of many discrete episodes by different specialized physicians at different phases of the surgical procedure. Also, they are extensively trained in pain medicine and critical care management courses, they understand the complex operational and procedural steps involved the surgical procedures thus making Anesthesiologists important in…

by the brain and phantom-limb pain. Flor et al. compared the cortical reorganization in 13 upper-limb amputees (using magnetic source imagine), their individual amount of phantom limb pain using comprehensive neurological and psychological investigation (as well as a standardized pain-intensity scale) and facial remapping. Results showed a positive relationship in amount of cortical reorganization and the amount of phantom limb pain experienced by each subject (P > 0.0001), (Flor et al., 1995, p.482).…

Extensive evidence exists that the independent practice of CRNAs is not inferior to physician supervised models in safety or quality of care. The article by Negrusa, Haogan, Warner, Schroeder, and Pang (2016) deliberates on the results of the comparison of anesthesia related complications in different types of anesthesia provider models. Data was taken from the Optum research database and included 5,740,470 anesthesia related cases performed from the 2011-2012 period in different anesthesia settings. Five delivery models consisting of anesthesiologist only, CRNA only, and three different collaborative team models were reviewed. No statistical difference in anesthesia induced complications between the different anesthesia delivery models or scope of practice scenarios was shown.…

While it is an elective surgery, many patients opt to get it to decrease pain due to osteoarthritis and to increase mobility. Each patient will have different perioperative experiences, and as a nurse it is important to be able to know the interventions and what to consider to make their overall experience as positive as possible. Such subjectivity is a limit to improving proper pain management in patients and the information on the quality and standard of the patient's experience (Glowacki 2015). I will be focusing on more common procedures of anesthesia as my focus of pain assessment. According to Ong, Lirk, Seymour, and Jenkins (2005), some specific procedures of anesthesia best for this kind of study includes epidural analgesia, local anesthetics, and other procedures such as nerve blocks. I will be conducting a survey consisting of previously published survey questions regarding the pre-operation and post-operation pain ratings of the patient, the procedure of anesthesia the patient will undergo, the pre-operation and post-operation pain complaints, and the amount of medicine needed to relieve patient pain during recovery. The variables I will be comparing are the pain scale values, the actual pain complaints, and the methods of pain management and anesthesia…

Findings revealed that participating mothers in this study were dissatisfied with post CS pain management. On the other hand, mothers were satisfied with the way doctors and nurses responded to their pain. Satisfaction with a health care provider is a very important measure for quality of services offered by health care organizations to individuals, families and communities (Klopfenstein, Hermann & Mamie, 2000). In the current study, 60.7% of the mothers were satisfied with pain management provided at the post natal ward (5B). our results slightly lower than results by Chung et al(2003) who found that 21% of post-operative patients were extremely satisfied and 66% were satisfied with pain relief.…

Data processed to provide a meaningful picture to the user in a particular context (Topaz, 2013). The proper utilization of knowledge comprises incorporation of the experimental, tenet principle of ethics, individual, and artistic knowledge in the development of action application (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2015). Information is meaningful if it answers the research questions. In Indiana, a research analysis conducted on eighty patients that undertook a total knee replacement system, the patients were grouped into two, one obtained the femoral nerve block (FNB) preoperatively, while the other group obtained Exparel intraoperatively (Surdam, Baynes, & Arce, 2015). The analysis result indicated swift recovery time on the patients that obtained the Exparel than counterparts, the Exparel patients’ ambulated same day after the surgery, and required a reduced hospital length of stay (Surdam, Baynes, & Arce,…
