Lactose is a sugar found in milk and milk products. Lactase Is an enzyme found in the small intestine that breaks down lactose into simple sugars such as glucose. The substrate has to fight to bind with the enzyme lactase. The inhibitor tries to attach to the lactase and slow down the chemical reaction while the substrate does the opposite. The substrate increases the rate of the chemical reaction, this chemical reaction breaks down the lactose into sugars. This chemical reaction is imperative because we need to change lactose into something the body can digest. This reaction heavily depends on whether or not the temperature and the ph are just right. If the conditions are to extreme the lactase will not function correctly. This normally results in lactose intolerance. …show more content…
The reason I think this will react and not the others is the presence of enzymes. The first and third test groups I mentioned both have enzymes in them. Enzymes jobs are to break down whatever the specialize in breaking down, (in this case milk and sucrose). The enzymes will always do their job unless they are denatured, like the enzyme in the last group. Nothing will happen in this group, because the enzyme in denatured therefore it can not perform its job. The milk and water won’t do anything because it’s our control group. I think that the water and sucrose may react only because I have seen it happen in everyday life, this is probably because

    The first piece of liver tested was we submerged it in boiling water for roughly five minutes, we got a zero reaction rate after testing it because the extreme heat totally changes the structure of the enzyme no longer having the catalase enzyme but something different. We also submerged a piece of liver in a beaker of ice and was submerged for roughly 5 minutes we then tested it and got a reaction rate of about 1 and a small amount of bubbles created because the low temperature slowed down the speed the reaction could happen.
