Management Interview: Environmental Manager The company I selected for this project was Westlake Chemical Corporation; the person I selected is the Environmental Manager, Jeannie Jeffus. Westlake Chemical is an international manufacturer and supplier of petrochemicals and building products that enhance the daily lives of people around the planet. The tires we ride on, the plastic wrap that keeps our meats and produce fresh, the pipes that are essential to ensuring clean water and the frames that secure our windows and doors all contribute to the health and well-being of communities everywhere. Westlake plays a vital role in supplying the building blocks for these products and many more. Employing approximately 8,870 people, Westlake operates …show more content…
The Health, Safety and Environmental field is a support role to the overall manufacturing process. Therefore, work and life must be balanced in every aspect of the job. If policy and regulators become so strict or overwhelming that facilities are unable to manufacture then she has failed at her job. I then inquired about the major reasons some managers would fail in a position like hers. The reason that most mangers fail in positions like this one is due to lack of focus on time management. The Environmental Manager position requires constant awareness of regulatory (and unforgiving) deadlines which must be met. If a manager gets behind or loses focus of upcoming deadlines then it creates a snowball effect and often leads to external audits from outside regulatory …show more content…
However I chose the environmental manager of a chemical corporation because that position requires much more than just good people skills. This particular field requires the desire to make the world in which we live in a better place for ourselves and future generations. An environmental manager has to not only comply with their corporation’s policies and procedures, they also have to adhere to and enforce those policies and regulations set forth by the Federal Government, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as well as the State Government, Texas Commission of Environmental Quality (TCEQ). By having three sets of rules and regulations that one must follow as well as maintaining a good workplace atmosphere would be difficult. Ms. Jeffus does not only have to worry about her direct reports she has to worry about and protect all employees and people in the community; her responsibility does not stop at the fence line it continues in the water that we drink and the air we

I’ve always loved the sound of rain. Its soft patter against my window releases me from the stresses of college applications, if only for a moment. Then, as quickly as it came, the rain stops its descent upon my window and retreats; growing up in Central Florida, I have been well accustomed to erratic weather patterns such as the rain coming and going in a moment’s notice. Florida’s weather has taught me a valuable lesson over the years: life can be as unpredictable as the weather.…

The Cuyahoga River fire of 1969. The Love Canal catastrophe in 1977. The Bhopal, India disaster of 1984. These incidents were defining moments in my youth that ultimately influenced my choice of careers. However, if I had to point to a single, seminal moment that most affected my desire for environmental conservation and restoration, it was the early 1970s public service announcement (“Keep America Beautiful”), which featured a Native American chief shedding a tear as trash is thrown out of a moving car and lands at his feet.…

It is important for managers to be good communicators, but it is also important for them to be organized and prepared for any outcomes that could happen in the future.…
