After the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that hit Haiti on January 12, The waste and debris that was left behind by the disaster was extremely unfortunate not only for Haiti but for the neighbouring country Port-au-Prince.40 to 50 percent of the buildings fell into the neighbouring country and close towns. Before the earthquake Haiti still had many environmental problems, Haiti's forests covered from 60 percent (because of the 1950s logging) to below 2 percent today. The American Red Cross is a very big supporter to help rebuild Haiti and its environment.
The amount of fresh water in Haiti has never been much although the water scarcity in Haiti now after the earthquake has increased and many diseases, (such as cholera)
