Before the mid-ninties food was much fresher than it is now. It’s easy totell that our produce and what we eat has dramatically changed since. For example, a tomato sauce recipe always required carrots to mellow the acidity. Today, carrots are not needed because most tomatoes lack the natural acidity they once had. New technology and development has allowed alteration to organic substances to inhance and improve the food supply, however there is just enough research to prove that genetiaclly modified organism’s (GMO’s) will harshly effect the enviroment, human health and even the economy.
A genetically modified organism, or GMO, “is the result of a laboratory process of taking genes from one species and inserting them into another in an attempt to obtain a desired trait or characteristic, hence they are also known as transgenic organisms” (GMO, …show more content…
The herbicides can also alter nutrient content in our foods. Now our produce lacks large amounts of the nutrients we need (GMO Edu., Heath Risks). The most concerning effect of GMO’s is the harm it can cause to our health. A lot of GMO compainies are trying to prevent research to be done on their crops. They also put out articles covering up research to show the “benefits” of the crops. Research done in France analyzed the effects on mamals from GM corn, which is very common in food and feed around the world, and concluded that there is a clear negitive impact on the liver and kidney. These are important dietary detoxitation organs needed to survive (Int J Biol Sci). Children are affected the most from GM foods. "Children’s bodies develop at a fast pace and are more likely to be influenced and show the effects of genetically modified (GM) foods. That is why independent scientists used young adolescent rats in their GM feeding studies. The rats showed significant health
