Environmental racism has been a problem for many years. Some people have died, some people have went to jail over this and some has gotten very sick. The government has placed hazardous toxics all over the world in minority communities. Environmental racism is something that effects people in different ways everywhere.…
Determinism is defined as all events occur according to the human due to external causes and in which the human has no control. Determinism is carefully evaluated due to the results of Cesare Lombroso’s assumption. It is not an accurate prediction that an offender will commit to a crime due to their external causations. Robert Agnew demonstrates in his studies that determinism isn’t a reliable theory due to the free will of the offender. He mentions other factors that can determine the offender to commit a crime by a psychological, biological, and social reason.…
Between 1500 and 1830, there was a prominent effect of racial ideologies on societies particularly in the regions of NOrth America and of Latin America and the Caribbean. There was a big impact on cultures and societies because of racial prejudices and stereotypes that changed society’s view on people of specific races. In both the North and South regions of the Americas, the societal and cultural effects of racial ideologies was most often seen in the interaction of the native and foreign people. Foreign people often viewed themselves as higher than indigenous people which led to racist norms in society. However, the difference between the European Nations and their beliefs caused the effects on North and Latin American societies differs greatly.…
Jared Diamond’s book “Guns, Germs, and Steel” begins with Diamond trying to answer a question Yali from New Guinea asks. Diamond reminds us repeatedly that too answer Yali’s question, history needs to be taken, into account. Not all tribes, continents, or countries were and still aren’t alike. Numerous, were agricultural, industrialized, various had a government, others having a chief was sufficed. However, with the differences comes a different environment, and climate.…

Jared Diamond’s popular book , Guns, Germs and Steel, argues that Eurasians were blessed with superior environmental conditions. Eurasians were able to utilize this advantage to dominate and colonize other parts of the world. According to Diamond, this environmental theory explains the inequality that has occurred in our world in the past 500 years and is the main reason that our world is the way it is today. Although Diamond’s argument looks to be valid on the surface, when examined, it turns out to be full of fallacies and holes. By only looking at this issue from an environmental perspective, Diamond’s conclusion is inaccurate and incomplete; he has left moral, intellectual and biological factors out and as a result, he has had to modify and twist facts to serve his purpose.…
This investigation aims to answer the research question: How did John Muir’s opposition to the Hetch Hetchy Valley Dam influence the American Environmental movement? To allow for an analysis of both the short and long-term effects of Muir’s protest the scope of this research is 1908- 1956. A thematic account of these effects is achieved by utilizing primary, secondary, and reflective sources, such as autobiographies. The first source which will be evaluated is an article written by John Muir titled “The Hetch Hetchy Valley” found in the Sierra Club Bulletin from 1908. The second is Robert W. Righter’s book The Battle over Hetch Hetchy: America's Most Controversial Dam and the Birth of Modern Environmentalism published in 2005.…

The book also has also been made into a tv show. The genre of Guns, Germs and steel is history.…
Self-regulation is a process that allows a child to respond to what is around them. It is important to note a child must be able to measure what they see, hear, taste as well as smell. To be able to link it to hat they have already learnt. It is vital that a child may also learn that self-regulation can be helpful in allowing them to link in with any of their inherent systems. This will allow for a proper response so they can regulate their thoughts as well as behaviours.…
The article “ Mental Environmentalism” by Micah White highlights the key idea that pollution negatively impacts the earthly environment, similarly, advertising companies and constant media messaging negatively affects the mental health of the population. The author brings up the idea that commercial propaganda is largely affecting the collapsing environment because advertisements pollute our minds and create a distraction from the collapsing world around us. However, instead of trying to individually solve these problems mental environmentalists are targeting the core agent which is the advertising industry which fuels consumerism and inevitably affects our mental environment. In order to support this thesis White elaborates on topics such…
1. For a civilization to conquer another, not only does it require knowledge and strategy, but also the aid of geography. This is a statement that Jared Diamond, an evolutionary biologist and biogeographer, demonstrated through his thirty years of research. His theory explained how human societies differed in regards to advancement and technology as a result of the dissimilarities in their environments. This advancement and technology aided civilizations in conquering others.…

In the article ‘Fewer people would mean fewer worries’, (Geer 2008, p.1) biologist Allen Geer contended that 1. technological solutions to environmental problems are inadequate, and 2. that stabilizing the population at present or lower levels is a durable and easy solution to implement. Therefore, stabilizing the population should be implemented as a solution to environmental problems such as climate change, either in tandem with, or in place of technological solutions. 1.1…
The meanings behind the beauty of nature by the nineteenth century have almost dwindled into pure unimportance. For some, nature stands for protection and home, while for Englishmen of that time it stands for power and profit. Nature comes from the word natus, which means birth in Latin. History provides an assumption that for many God was the creator of all including nature. He controlled the growth, a change for every season, and anything pertaining to Earth itself.…
The state of the environment in 1948 was arguably similar to the state of the environment today. Environmental concerns such as air and water pollution were, and are currently a major concern. The main difference in 1948 however, was that pertinent regulations and laws had yet to be enacted. Conceivably, the main benefit of an unfortunate pollution catastrophe in 1948, which put into motion several environmental milestones, was the Federal Water Pollution Control Act. This act paved the road for environmental turning points such as The Clean Air Act of 1970, and the Clean Water act of 1972, as well as countless others.…
