The Meaning of a Name
The Story of My Search What is in a name? People say that a picture is worth a thousand words. I say that a name is worth a thousand words. My question, though, is what are those words? This was my quest, my search. A search that took me farther down the rabbit hole than I had ever intended it to. My search took me through the etymology and mythology of my name. Through the pages of a book, to the deep reaches of the Internet, and all the way to my mother’s spoken word, I have made discoveries of my name. I searched for my whole name: first, middle, and last. I also found people who share my names, my names’ popularity, their origins and meanings, and so much more. He died when my mother was only five months old (Heather Loden). It has an English origin with the meanings of wagon maker and wagon driver. Wayne is the one hundred eighty seventh most common name since the year 1880 (“Search for Your Favorite Names”). Wayne can be used as a first, middle, or last name, but 49% of the time it is used as a last name (“Uncover Your Roots”). It is mainly popular in the south eastern portion of the United States and is most common in Louisiana (“Search for Your Favorite Names”). The most interesting piece of information that I could find on Wayne being a middle name is the fact that there are apparently more serial killers with the middle name Wayne than any other middle name. As some examples, there is John Wayne Gacy, who killed almost three dozen boys and young men in the late 1970s and buried most of them beneath the floorboards of his Des Plaines, Illinois home, and Elmer Wayne Henley, who was sentenced to six consecutive life terms in 1974 in Houston for his role, with ringleader Dean Allen Corll, in the murders of 27 young men (“Name Berry: Baby Names Only
