PADM 302 Course Reflection My primary goals for this course were to improve my writing skills in two specific ways. I wanted to be able to write with greater speed, but with apparent quality, and I wanted to be clearer in my writing. I had two strategies in mind to meet these goals. The first included becoming proficient at writing outlines and frameworks, which, I thought, would help me better adhere to my objectives for the papers I write. The second strategy was to learn methods by which I could become more concise in writing which would enable me to more powerfully present the points I wish to deliver in papers.…

Over the course of English 102, I have developed a new set of skills and learned to become a better writer. When I first came into English 102 I struggled with many different concepts of writing. During the semester in English 102, my writing became stronger because I learned how to incorporate evidence into my argument, do more thorough research, have smoother transitions, and have more organization throughout my essay. I learned how to peer review better and to take what others say and incorporate it into my essay. In the beginning, before English 102, I struggled with good organization and flow to an essay, sandwich evidence into paragraphs, and having strong arguments in persuasive essays.…

This semester, my writing, editing, problem solving, organization, comprehension, and communication skills as an English 20-1 student have improved. Some of the challenges that I’ve faced as a writer were starting an essay, trying to incorporate academic vocabulary, and putting details into my work. The essay question we received for Macbeth was extremely challenging. After mulling over the question and still not understanding what it was asking, I solved my problem by dissecting it into pieces and determining what each piece meant, changing words or phrases as I went into terms that I could easily understand. I discovered that my vocabulary is lacking sophisticated and descriptive words.…

Throughout the entirety of this English 101 course, I have seen my skills as a writer grow. In the beginning of the school year, my writing fell short of my expectations, but as I continued to work and learn the principles of writing, I have written papers that I am proud to say are mine. Among the aspects of my writing I have improved, the best strives are seen within my my counter arguments and overall strength and coherency of my papers. To begin, when looking at a paper I wrote in August on necessity of first drafts, there were large gaps in my elaboration, bringing concerns as to whether I was arguing and proving a point or merely summarizing what Lamott, the author of the article, originally said. When attempting to argue my evidence, I stated,…

English 99 was a very difficult and the most challenging course I have ever enrolled in. It was also very time consuming, I had to devote many of my hours to my English 99 class. I think it was so challenging, because it was a mixture of two courses in one. The amount of work would have probably been much less if I would have managed my time better. I would do the all of the work I just had a little trouble, but I started to get into study groups to understand the concepts in class more that ended up working well for me.…

As I finish my second English course at San Jose State University, I reevaluate all of my accomplishments in my improvement in English since high school. At the beginning of my first-year English course at this school, I have realized my weaknesses in writing such as the improper usage of grammar and the lack of concise and coherent language in my papers. After completing the Stretch English program last year, it has made a huge impact on my writing and readings skills. The results of that program allowed me as a writer's to actively read and be aware of the rhetorical features in the text, organize my quotations that enabled me to effectively integrate them into an essay, and use the information I have critiqued upon readings to support my ideas. As I complete my second English course, I was able to…

I feel that writing is a good subject to be familiar and practicing in frequently, it is a necessary tool to communicate properly. Although, if I were to be truthful I’d have to say that I am not the biggest fan of it due to the fact that it bores me and I have trouble figuring out what to say. So I find it hard to enjoy writing because most of the time I am just struggling to concentrate because I don’t have much more to say about a topic. Recently, since I have not been in school for a while, I have found myself forgetting rules to the English language in my everyday speech so I find it to be useful. This has influenced how I feel about writing because the more I write, the more easily I can remember to use these rules in my daily…
