English 11 Reflection

Looking back over the course of this year I came to the realization of how much can change and develop in a short amount of time. Throughout English 11 I learned a lot about how I am as a reader and as a writer. Along with the numerous other activities we did. Each activity and project is a factor in my growth as a learner.
It seems that in every book there is a lesson you can learn. Over the semester I had the pleasure of reading two books independently: The Lies we tell ourselves and The First wife. The first wife is a mystery book, so you want to keep reading to find out the killer. Love and trust were the key themes that they're kept falling back to. Then on the other side is Lies we tell ourselves. This book is more realistic historical fiction. I was able to learn “first hand” the difficulties that came with integration and the racism the 1960s. As much as I hate to say this, but doing the book talks and PVLEGS was helpful. Having to talk in front of class is my worst nightmare. Learning and using PVLEGS they weren’t too bad. It allowed me to feel a little better about doing presentations. The SAT prep was also a great tool for me. It was very useful doing and seeing the problems before we had to take the test. Personally I even used them during the test. Doing both, presentation and SAT prep, we as a class was able to improve our skills. Something I did well at was completing all my work on time and with my best effort. On the other hand I could improve my writing skills and grammar. I had to take some ownership in my learning.
