Looking back over the course of this year I came to the realization of how much can change and develop in a short amount of time. Throughout English 11 I learned a lot about how I am as a reader and as a writer. Along with the numerous other activities we did. Each activity and project is a factor in my growth as a learner.
It seems that in every book there is a lesson you can learn. Over the semester I had the pleasure of reading two books independently: The Lies we tell ourselves and The First wife. The first wife is a mystery book, so you want to keep reading to find out the killer. Love and trust were the key themes that they're kept falling back to. Then on the other side is Lies we tell ourselves. This book is more realistic historical fiction. I was able to learn “first hand” the difficulties that came with integration and the racism the 1960s. Lies we tell ourselves was more focused on internal and external struggles of family issues, school, and love too! Love was the only thing that the two had in

As much as I hate to say this, but doing the book talks and PVLEGS was helpful. Having to talk in front of class is my worst nightmare. Learning and using PVLEGS they weren’t too bad. It allowed me to feel a little better about doing presentations. The SAT prep was also a great tool for me. It was very useful doing and seeing the problems before we had to take the test. Personally I even used them during the test. Doing both, presentation and SAT prep, we as a class was able to improve our skills. Something I did well at was completing all my work on time and with my best effort. On the other hand I could improve my writing skills and grammar. I had to take some ownership in my learning. Somethings were a little more difficult for me and I needed to spend extra time doing it. There was a number of items that were useful and allowed me to

My revision of “Face it, America!” that follows this cover letter reflects what I have learned in English 1021 so far. While revising this essay, I learned when to use present tense in my writing and past tense in my writing when appropriate. In this class, I have learned to use more transitions and appropriate transitions in my writing. My revision reflects this because in my second paragraph where I mention the significance of police officers, I use transition words for every new sentence that needs it.…

What new ideas I have been learning in English 111 so far is how to the use rhetorical devices more in writing my papers, and notices them as well when reading. I always know what ethos, logos, and pathos were be I never try to identify them in my papers of in articles, textual artifacts or in media. So I enjoy learning about that so far. I think the challenges I am facing in this class is how to more into depth when explaining a quote, passage, and paragraph when I find the rhetorical devices in this in why the author say what they use and use certain words as they do, I think that can help is to may identify what kind of questions I should ask myself more when I’m trying to analysis my paragraphs. I've posted your earned mid-term grades in English 111 on Banner and will be glad to discuss your situation with you individually sometime next week, if you'd like. These are information grades. As usual, knowledge is power: What the grade tells you gives you a chance to be pro-active in ways that might ensure your success in the course. A proper response to a mid-term grade is neither resignation nor smugness. Without my forcing the issue, the overall average at mid-term in my two sections of English 111 happens to be exactly 2.0 or "C," a reasonable outcome for a first-semester college course, one that includes several failures by students who simply quit coming to class and submitting the assigned writing projects.…

I had to take English 1102 as a required course to obtain my degree. I was nervous about taking an online class because I had never taken one. I was behind an English class because of the way that my schedule had fallen the previous two semesters. I was advised to take the class during the summer, so that I would not get off track with my classes. My only option was to take an online class.…

Reflection The English 111 course is virtually, an opportunity to grow my creative writing skills and expand critical thinking abilities. When I start my English 091 class, I had no idea of how to start a assay or how I could add some facts from any journal or other kind of information. Before this class I could say that I consider myself a terrible writer, I did not had a perfect grammar and neither a smooth writing. In many cases my writing did not make sense. Many times I just used to write whatever I had on my mind, sometimes I didn’t even plan before my final draft, I did not was organized . I have seen many improving things on my writing.…

On the 1st day of AP English class all you heard was the clock barely ticking, sweat coming off of the teacher forehead and the students taking out paper and writing utensils to take notes on what we need. What stood out was Mrs. Fantroy’s strong voice along with the books that were shown for everyone to read that semester. The books looked like they could have come from out of ancient tombs or something. She had at least two lengthy looking books. She stated, “These are just some books for you guys to read just this semester.…

The experience gained through this field experience was very positive and gratifying. The first couple of sessions were like the ground periods, I had to get familiar with Hidden Oaks Elementary School and their ESOL program as well as to meet the team of teachers and their students. I will hope to capture in this reflection the knowledge obtained, the positive aspects, and outcomes of this valuable practice. From the very beginning I felt very comfortable with both teachers and the students’.…

Over the course of this semester I learned a lot about myself as a writer. This English 1010 class has really allowed me to expand my essay structure and ways of thinking. When I first started this course, I was scared and didn’t really know what to expect. I branched out to different styles and types of essays as well as incorporating outside sources into my work. When I received my first essay back with the feedback and the grade, I realized that I was not a really good writer.…

Over the course of English 102, I have developed a new set of skills and learned to become a better writer. When I first came into English 102 I struggled with many different concepts of writing. During the semester in English 102, my writing became stronger because I learned how to incorporate evidence into my argument, do more thorough research, have smoother transitions, and have more organization throughout my essay. I learned how to peer review better and to take what others say and incorporate it into my essay. In the beginning, before English 102, I struggled with good organization and flow to an essay, sandwich evidence into paragraphs, and having strong arguments in persuasive essays.…

I was able to perceive reading and writing in a more deeper and understanding level, actually see the purpose behind it all. People sometimes do something and never really asked, “why?” I feel like that’s what I was missing in high school. Seems like Teachers follow a linear teaching style and never question the course curriculum they have to follow. Never go into a more understanding of what a course is about.…

Throughout the entirety of this English 101 course, I have seen my skills as a writer grow. In the beginning of the school year, my writing fell short of my expectations, but as I continued to work and learn the principles of writing, I have written papers that I am proud to say are mine. Among the aspects of my writing I have improved, the best strives are seen within my my counter arguments and overall strength and coherency of my papers. To begin, when looking at a paper I wrote in August on necessity of first drafts, there were large gaps in my elaboration, bringing concerns as to whether I was arguing and proving a point or merely summarizing what Lamott, the author of the article, originally said. When attempting to argue my evidence, I stated,…

Over the course of this semester in my English 1320 class I have seen a drastic change throughout my writing style. Although I still have difficulties with a few writing tasks, I believe that I have improved significantly throughout this course. I have found that with my professor’s guidance along with my own personal editing that my grades have increased. Although it is difficult to not get caught up in simply striving for a letter grade or attaining a 4.0 grade point average, I would like to believe that my main goal was different. Of course I would love to achieve those goals as well, but overall my primary goal throughout this class was to become more relaxed and comfortable in my writings, to use new strategies and proper kinds of conventions, and to truly find a way to express my passion on these papers.…

This school year I enjoyed this English class because it was not very difficult, but it was not easy at all. This year we did so many assignments and some of them were analyzing poems, emulating poems, writing a theme of a poem, presenting a speech in class and then working as a group to create a chapter. I believe that I have grown throughout this school year. I have grown as a listener because back then I was not used to listening to poems without having a paper right in front of me.…
