Someone once stated, “Failure is not the worst thing in the world. The very worst is not to try” (Unknown). Strongly said, this sentence holds true. At some stage in every person’s life, he or she will experience the awful feeling of failing; it is a common part of life. Nevertheless, failure teaches people valuable life lessons that giving up never will. Consequently, I fully comply with the idea that failure is not the worst action that can happen, not trying is.
Everyone always assumes failing is the worst action that a person can undergo, but I believe not trying is. In Self-Reliance, Emerson makes a statement about effort: “The power which resides in him is new in nature, and none but he knows what that is which he can do, nor does he know until he has tried” (Emerson 245). In this quote, Emerson attempts to emphasize that people are unable to reach their potential without constant pursuit, therefore, one will never know what they are capable of unless he or she continually struggles to reach his or her goal. In addition to the quote, working strenuously to achieve a goal occurs in actual life.
