Emergent Phenomena

I attended the Emergent Phenomena by Rebecca Flint on 4/25/18. This presentation started off with a comparison between flocking of birds and the movement of particles. This was an interesting way to grab the attention of the crowd. She accomplished this by first showing a video of the movement of a large amount of starling birds. She had some technical difficulties trying to get the video, and that took away time from her presentation which would come made the end of presentation very brief. Besides, the technical difficulty, I think that showing this comparison was a good way to connect the topic that she was going to discuss to something that more people could relate to. During the transition from the intro of the presentation to the body,

After presenting and completing my visual informative speech, there were several strengths and weaknesses present throughout my speech. Some of my strengths, with respect to the content of the speech as I did my visual presentation, was that I did a good job with the introduction. The introduction involved introducing my topic and grabbing the attention of my audience. Also, I had great supporting materials and most importantly great organization of my main points. As for the delivery aspect of my speech, according to the video, I had a good posture and used my flash cards very well, which were very helpful in delivering my speech.…

Drew Hayden's alterNatives is a phenomenal play displaying the many stereotypes present between Indian and white people. The first issue that really caught my eye was near the end when Angel reveals to Colleen that she was one of the girls who would pay him and his friends 50 cents for every story they told her. I believe this message has so many different meanings. First of all, it displays just how flawed our view of Indian history can truly be, it's preposterous to think Anthropologists could show up to a reserve, pay a bunch of Indian kids (in this case Angel and Bobby) to tell them Native stories and then go on to write a book on these stories claiming them to be true Native history. To think that this could have happened, or could currently…

For the purpose of “Relate a Studied Text With Another Text,” I choose the ABC presentation on Of Mice and Men and The Mighty. Of Mice and Men is a novel written by John Steinbeck, where as The Mighty is a movie directed by Peter Chelsom. George and Maxwell are the protagonists in Of Mice and Men and The Mighty respectively. We read and studied Of Mice and Men in class with Mr. Hill, yet watched The Mighty. The assignment was to create an slideshow with twenty six slides, each with one word that meant something for both Of Mice and Men and The Mighty.…

Her evidence definitely supported her main idea which was how do you find love and that’s when she explained how falling in love is the easy part, but staying in love is the hard part. I believe that if she didn’t have her experience to tell, then her presentation would have lacked evidence, unless she explored other peoples’ relations conducted by the study. However, I do felt it was clever for her to try the study on herself to see if it really works. She really got to experience it face on and it brought her…

Today, I learned what it means to exhibit energy and enthusiasm whenever I present to the audience. It was made clear to me the meaning of enthusiasm, which is an exceptional excitement, interest, or devotion expressed through and in the way words is used. If I have excitement about the subject, it will make my speech come alive and therefore captures the attention of my audience. I also learned that enthusiasm could be reflected in my facial expression, voice, gestures and the words I use, while I need energy, zeal to exhibit these enthusiasms. With this I have learned, from now on, the way I present would definitely be different from what it use to be because “nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm”- Ralph Waldo Emerson.…

With my visual argument project my main intent was to portray the idea of the current and upcoming generations dependency of their mobile/technological devices. The reason I chose this argument in particular because I have seen this problem being very prominent first had. I feel that everywhere I go I see young children constantly on their cellphone and technological devices. I see this in my own family too, when we were younger (older cousins and I) we were constantly outdoor plays sports or any other physical activities. Now a constant theme that I encounter when walking into family occasion is the younger kids are rather drawn to their iPads and mobile devices.…

To add on, I am an auditory learner, therefore, demonstration through speech is very helpful in improving how I perceive information. Many times, reviewing your work can seem tiring, tedious, or even overwhelming. You have done so much work already and between the pre-writing, research, and actual composition of your essay it can feel as if it is all you can do to glance over your work before it’s time to turn it in. But that’s a mistake. Quite often you can get a better grade simply by taking the time to review your work.…

Overtime self-governing structures have helped the evolution of the role politics and government play in a society. Self-government is a system where the people of a country or state make decisions for themselves and aren’t under complete rule of just one person. Democratic and republican governments are based off of the beliefs in self-governments. Global Warming: A Natural process or a Self-Inflicted Wound? One of the biggest issues that today’s world is facing is global warming, a topic of concern to almost every human being in the globe; we have seen its effects on the crops and lands, we have experienced the scorching heat and thermal discomfort and, more often than not, we have blamed the industrialized nations for it (conveniently disregarding the fact that we use most of the products these demonized countries generate). But what is it caused by? Is it, perhaps, a byproduct of our careless usage of fossil fuels or just a stage that the planet would eventually overcome?…

That really disappointed me that I was unable to involve the students during my lecture. Few of the junior students also felt that I should have reviewed the topic material in a clear and concise manner (approximately 87%). Due to lack of time I did rush through my content and wanted to cover all my slides. After receiving the student evaluation form I was surprised that almost 45 students out of 75 were pleased with my presentation. This really surprised me, because more than half of the class was happy with my session.…
