The author brilliantly used the syntax to make the poem more compelling to the readers. The repetition of the line “Watercress grows here and there” in the second, fourth, and the fifth stanza gave the poem an overall melodic rhythm. Moreover, the exact repetition of “Gentle maiden, pure and fair” in line 3,7,15, and 19 emphasized the young man’s desire for the fair lady. While exact line repetition occurred, repetition with small variations was also embedded in the poem as signals for plot…

Love is such a weird feeling, it can be happy, it can be sad, it can be an extremely hard work. Everyone has experienced love, and it is a typical emotion that people express under writings. The two poems “To E” by Sara Teasdale and “When You Are Old” by W.B. Yeats both show that love is to learn how to appreciate the one you like; by using warm, peaceful dictions that give the reader a positive, happy mood, both authors expressed their feelings to their loved ones, however, Teasdale uses more personification , while Yeats uses more hyperbole. Different directions create different images in the reader's brain. For example, in “To E”, the author says, “Then like the sun your sweetness overcame /…

The poem, “To My Dear Loving Husband” by Anne Bradstreet has more of an intimate tone as it was written for her husband while Elizabeth Browning’s “ How Do I Love Thee” describes love in a more far reaching way. There are a lot more similarities between the two poems, but the most evident among these is that both of them share a happy and a passionate marriage.…

Repetition puts emphasis on the idea that the author is trying to get across. For example, Faulkner repeats the phrase "agony and sweat." With that phrase, he was emphasizing the idea that the exertion and pain of what it means to be human is something that not only is present in all of his works, but an idea that Faulkner sees as a universal and human truth that writing should and does explore. An idea such as this one is emphasized through its repetition further in the speech, when Faulkner argues that such a basic truth of the "agony and sweat" in what it means to be human, will enable human beings to endure. This is where I can see how Faulkner uses the repetition of the endurance and sacrifice of human beings, and how that enables individuals to find some level of strength that will enable them to eventually triumph.…
