The elements found in the planetary nebulae and supernovas. A scientist has found that in the permitted lines of planetary nebulae there are nitrogen ions (Aller). Permitted lines are only found with a high power telescope; this shows that there are more possibilities of other elements within these clouds. The elements that are mostly know in Planetary nebulae are the common “hydrogen, helium, and other heavy elements” (Osterbrock). Most nebulae are made up of these elements, but this could change with more research and technological advancement. Supernovas hold sulfur molecules along with the common element in other nebulas ("The Chemistry …show more content…
They could be confused with supernovae, but they surround a star. Supernovae are bright when they first are formed and normally spread a hundred light-years across (Arnett). The explosion could be seen in the sky but it would more like a star because of distance between the earth and the nova. Dark nebulas block light from surrounding stars and join with reflective and emission nebulas(Arnett). Reflective are normally blue in color but are not as big as planarity and supernovae(Arnett). Different elements give off different colors. Proof of this was an element of burning salt and watching the flame. When cupric chloride was burned two out of three times it was turquoise color(Franks). However, all three times when strontium chloride was burned the flames shown red(Franks). Likewise, beryllium chloride and potassium chloride both burned the same color all three types; beryllium was a purple flame and potassium was a pink flame. Like cupric chloride, lithium chloride flame was a fuchsia color for only two types out of three. Planetary nebulas are the formed when stars shed their outer shells ("The Universe" ).This leaves it unable to form anything as it just sits there. Supernovas are formed when the star explodes( "The Chemistry of Exploding Stars”). This explosion can give off enough strength to cover hundreds of light-years. Dark is formed by the collection of gas and dust("The
