Elementary Education Interview

Improved Essays
For this written assignment, I made the decision to interview an individual with expertise in childcare and child development; an elementary education teacher in the town I grew up in. To this day, I contemplate the idea of becoming an elementary education teacher or working with young children in the medical field. I chose to interview a kindergarten teacher named Robin Kennett to help me discover and analyze various aspects of working with young children in a school setting. Below is a list of questions I compiled and Mrs. Kennett’s responses to them:

Why did you decide to enter this profession? Why this age group?
“I decided to enter this profession purely because of my love for education and children. I believe that all children should have access to a great start in life and I decided to become a teacher in an

uninvolved parents?
“Yes, children of involved parents, on average, do better than the children of uninvolved parents. This is typically because more involved parents tend to offer a better support system at home, and they generally provide a structural life for their child. Typically, uninvolved parents tend to offer a weaker support system or they are home less often than they should be. This is noticeable when looking at a child’s academic success.”
How do you handle a parent or guardian who is uninvolved? A parent who is angry about their child’s education or any other specific situation?
“I handle this situation much like I handle disciplinary situations with children. I avoid harsh tones and arguing with the parents as it can escalate the already tense situation. This is a difficult question as there is no single way to handle an angry parent. Most of the time we just do our best to calm the concerned or angry parent while avoiding any further tensions, and doing what we can to help the situation.”

This discussion really made me think on how to handle a situation with an upset parent. I was a little concerned on how well my methods of de-escalation techniques were going to be in this situation because it was a bit different from the couple of exercise we did in class. Nonetheless I did this exercise with a woman named Bailee and the exercise took about 10 to 15 minutes to complete/ The technique I used first for this assignment was an emotional one. I responded to her situation in an apologetic manner and expressed my dealt of frustration with her.…

One of the most important things to do when managing a successful classroom, is to include the parent in the child's learning experience. There are many ways to accomplished this. First, and foremost, I would want to make sure the parent knows exactly how the child is performing in the class. In order to make sure the parent is awake, I would do many things. Summary Parenting is a difficult job, one that comes with a tremendous amount of responsibility. Parents must provide love, while being patient and understanding. One obligation parents must provide is teaching and guiding their children as they mature into adulthood (Gonzalez, 2002). The article clearly defined how a child’s education begins in the home, not the classroom. Parents and educators want the same things, for students to be successful at home and school.…

Protecting a Child From Overprotection As kids grow up, most of the behaviors they develop and learn come from their family members, friends, but also parents. The way that the child is treated by his/her parents usually has a correlation with the child’s behaviors. Some kids happen to have a very distant relationship with their parent(s), as their parent(s) might not choose to be involved in the child’s life. On the completely other side of the spectrum, lay kids with parents who stick around for every second of the child’s life.…

Why parents should be responsible for crimes committed by minor age children. Over the years, there has been an ongoing debate on who to blame for the crimes committed by minors. Some people say that it’s the child’s fault for doing delinquent acts but it is the parent’s responsibility to teach them in the first place before these things could happen so minors shouldn’t be blamed so easily for the lack of knowing better. It’s the parent’s responsibility to treat and guide them correctly and if they can’t handle that, then it is their fault. There are plenty of good reasons as to why parents should be blamed for the crimes of minor age children.…

Every teacher has their own motives to answer why they chose this profession. According to Don Kauchak and Paul Eggen (2014), some of those reasons may include job security especially due to the teacher shortage (p. 9), personal and intellectual growth (p. 7), being able to have most holidays off (p. 8), wanting to make a difference (p. 7), or seeing each student’s progression towards improvements in a particular subject area (Kauchak and Eggen, 2014, p. 14). Although there are several benefits, the driving force behind my decision to teach is the self-growth through challenging work, smiles from the children when they have fun learning, and the maturing of the student’s behavior.…
