The Enzyme Electrophoretic Separation of Proteins lab experiment will take place on March 7th, 2017, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm. It is important for students to follow lab safety guidelines in order to prevent any complications that may be a risk to one's health. For this experiment, students must wear their lab coat, goggles, and gloves at all times. All materials in this experiment should be handled with caution to avoid any damages. Students must keep hands away from face, eyes, and mouth, when being in contact with chemicals. Students will enter this lab with basic knowledge on how agarose gel electrophoresis is used to separate proteins. This lab experiment will approximately take 20 minutes to gather all the materials needed and to prepare the agarose gel for use. The run time for the experiment can range between 2 to 3 hours depending on the accuracy and pace of the students. It is important to follow directions carefully to avoid mistakes and to obtain the best results. When the experiment is concluded, students will approximately take 10 minutes to put away all materials and to disinfect the area where the experiment took place.

When we add different types of dye samples to the agarose gel electrophoresis, we will observe their rate and direction as the agarose gel is separating the mixture of dyes into their individual components. They will differ in structure, chemical composition, and amount of energy carried by each. Since dye F has a positive charge, and the other dyes A-E are negatively charged with a neutral pH, then we will be able to observe the molecules move to the opposite side on dye
