I think the most difficult thig about working with an EHR is learning the software and remembering to be extremely careful with the data entry. Another issue would be discovering that data already entered into the EHR has missing or incorrect information in the record.
How can you resolve difficulties?
How I would overcome the learning curve on the software is to LEARN the software. I would watch instructional videos, read the manual, and create notes to help me navigate the steps necessary for entering data and always take training if it’s available. I’m confident that I can learn any software I’m given to work with. It just takes a little exposer and then it becomes second nature.

There were some great ideas to reduce denials due to registration errors. One was to have the registrars receive a daily list of their errors followed by a monthly report card. That was great but another contributor said that their hospital has a “shared excellency” program. This provides bonuses for registrars that maintain a 90% accuracy rate. The participant commented, “As a result, we are seeing improvement in eligibility verification across the organization as well as cash collection by helping us identify when and how much is due in the forms of copayments.” (Healthcare Financial Management Association & Emdeon Business Services, 2008, p.3)
After working in claim gear I know how easy it is to “forget” the co-pay. A bonus would be a great way to motivate staff to verify, verify, verify.
