• Teenagers should not thrive to have a perfect body. The pressure on girls to have the “perfect body” is on the rise because of what society perceives and defines as “perfect”. For decades women have been put under the pressure of looking a certain way. This pressure primarily begins in the adolescence- teenage years of a girl’s life. Teenage girls are expected to have perfect bodies. As a result, girls are constantly lowering their self esteem.
• Girls are lowering their self-esteem because they feel that they are not as beautiful as famous models. What they don’t know is the amount of altering made to their pictures to make them seem “perfect”. When a model on a magazine cover is being called flawless, it is easy for a girl to aspire to be like the model. They may seem to have clear skin and a slim waist, but in reality a lot of makeup and photo shopping is done to make the person look so. The Victoria’s Secret models are an example of this. Last year Victoria’s Secret launched an advertisement campaign featuring the slogan “the perfect body” which led to outrage among people. Teenagers lose their friends. Parents loose their children. All because of ones inability to love themselves. Body Shaming is something that has become so rampant in society that every girl must be passionate to stand up against it. Taking a stand is simple. Stand up for any woman who is being picked on for their size. Do not support firms that body shame and that only sell to people of an “ideal body type”.
