This essay will focus on how ethnocentrism has impacted my life, and in turn, my self-concept. Before we delve into the effect ethnocentrism has had on my life, this term must be explained. Ethnocentrism is the belief one’s culture is superior to all others. Culture can be defined as: religion, race, nationality, political standing, or any other established group of people. Examples of ethnocentrism can be seen across the world, in nearly any setting in which people have congregated. Ethnocentrism has affected me is many ways, including, but not limited to, others’ views of my religion, gender, and sexuality.
