In the experiment students reported lapses in their attention by using clickers. The data in the study suggests that students do not pay attention continuously for 10-20 minutes during a lecture (Bunce, Flens, Neiles, 2010). Most students are not paying attention in class and dose of and are no longer engaged in the lecture. Weimer states that the findings of the study established that students are more engaged when they are doing something else rather than paying attention to the professor giving the lecture. The fact that many students have lapses during lecture is not surprising to anyone. Many student’s attention can be right at the professor teaching, but can be lost when someone walks in late making your turn your attention to that person walking in late and losing focus. Another factor that attributes to students having lapses and easily getting distracted is that when you don’t know much about the subject and don’t find it as interesting and find it “boring”. Medina also supports that claim saying that we are captivated by our interests and are more aware in lecture that we actually pay attention. If students want to be successful and not be negatively impacted, they should prioritize their goals and task that need to be accomplished. The way to be successful ultimately is to have your mind focused on being successful and to pay attention in lectures to have good
