Society today is exposed to advertisements by television, radio, magazines, newspapers, and even billboards (G Barve et. al.). This exposure, however, has begun to negatively influence American society. Advertisements influence different people in society today in many different ways, and ever since television and broadcasting were brought into the American culture, it has been one of the main sources for information. However, many people do not know about the serious problems advertisements can cause. Advertisements negatively impact American society by promoting violence, causing obesity, and influencing women in destructive way.

Children today consume many different types of media, spending forty-four point five hours each week in front of screens. In fact, children today spend more time in front of screens than any other activity besides sleeping (“Impact of Food”). Violence in advertisements has lead to increased violence in American society as a whole. This violence in society leads to increased domestic, media, sports, and workplace violence, increased road rage, promotes more violence-related products, and reaches schools, increasing bullying (Jones et. al.). Over 1000 studies how a link between violent programming and increased aggression, especially among children. Not only that, but exposure to violent content also causes aggressive thoughts and hostile emotions in children and adults (Jones et. al.). Possibly the most influential impact of violent advertising is that violence in advertisements can affect the audience’s ability to make rational decisions. Due to their emotional responses from the violent content, the audience’s ability to make good, smart, rational decisions could be at risk (Jones et. al.). All of these problems have serious results, so what should society do to stop
