A leader comes in various forms and in most notably recognized as a person in charge such as a boss of other people. A common idea is that leadership involves influencing the attitudes, beliefs, behaviors, and feelings of others in order to get something done. However, just because an individual is in charge doesn’t necessarily mean that other people will listen or follow ones command. To further add to the fact that not all leaders are followed, not all leaders are male ones at that. This study found a significant inequality in the workplace amongst gender roles that occupied the managerial positions. Apprehending the correct course of action is dependent on the hierarchal management a company is rooted from. Effective leadership is up to the person in charge maintaining certain key traits regardless of the situation he/she is in. A widespread theory of leadership known as the contingency theory of leadership focuses on the characteristics of the leaders, the followers, and situation. There are two kinds of leaders that the theory argues: those who are task-oriented, concerned with getting the job done, and those who are relationship-oriented, who are more content in developing interactions with workers feelings and relationships. Within these types of leaders come two subsequent styles that follow: transactional and transformational.
