Edgar Allan Poe's Annabel Lee

Thesis: If people really want to make their romantic relationship endure, the most important thing

is love him or her forever. In Edgar Allan Poe's poem "Annabel Lee", came out in 1849, the man

still loves his wife even though she was killed. Annabel Lee was killed by angles, but the man did

not try to find a new love because of he lost his love in life:

And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side

Of my darling-my darling-my life and my bride,

In her sepulcher there by the sea-

In her tomb by the sounding sea.(6.38-41)

My favorite Hong Kong superstar Leslie Cheung and his love Daffy Tong had this kind of

romantic relationship. Leslie was a homosexual, so he faced a lot of pressure in that conservative

After their relationship was discovered by media, Leslie did not deny this fact even

though his career may be affected by this relationship. He was even appeared in public with Daffy

in order to showed his determination and attitude. I think Leslie wanted to stay with Daffy like

normal person, and he wanted to express "I don't wanna miss a thing".(13.55) I totally understand

how Leslie felt when he fell in love with someone. Sometimes he might even think “ I could stay

awake just to hear you breathing”.(1.1) Those amazing thoughts were from Aerosmith’s song: I

Don’t Want To Miss A Thing. It was came out in 1998. Unfortunately, Leslie committed suicide

because of depression on April 1, 2003:

I don't wanna close my eyes

I don't wanna fall asleep

'Cause I'd miss you, baby

And I don't wanna miss a thing(2.7-10)

Antithesis: I do not like Bruno Mars’s attitude to love in his song
