Edgar Allan Poe wrote detective, horror, and the style of mad men writing. He attended excellent schools growing up which gave him a great education. Excellent schooling helped his writing. Even though Poe did not finish college, he still became a successful writer due to his experiences. Poe’s biological parents were not in his life growing up and he was forced to be a foster child. He never knew his birth parents. Those life experiences can take a toll on a person when they are growing up. He also had an alcohol problem, which he related to his wife’s illness of Tuberculosis. The stress of her condition and the amounts of alcohol he was drinking contributed to his insanity. Edgar Allan Poe also admitted to doing drugs and drinking. Many of his stories and characters included the use of drugs or insanity that was a part of drugs and alcohol. Having a great deal of debt and not having any help to get out of it and struggling can encourage a person to do anything to get out of it. His writing helped him turn his life around for the better. Many of Edgar Allan Poe’s writing started to seem normal but always ended in tragedy, as did many of the events in his life. Most of his characters in his stories or poems could be connected back to real people in his life. They were the inspiration for his characters. His wife, Virginia Eliza Clemm Poe, was one of the main inspirations for his writing. While they were married and after her death she inspired his work of writing.
