Since the first case of Ebola in America, there has been an explosion of media coverage of this disease, ranging from infections and healthcare warnings to rumored cases. Almost all of the media coverage has been warnings, and alleged cases of Ebola in addition to how dangerous it is. The U.S. Media is escalated the Ebola virus beyond its immediate danger, and intensified the feeling of panic in the population. There is no reason for this level of dread among the public, and here are reasons why I know the media is doing this.
The Deadly, Monstrous Disease Revealed!
Ebola Hemorrhagic Fever, or more commonly known as just Ebola, is a rare, yet deadly strain of the Ebola virus. There are five strains of this …show more content…
As mentioned above dogs are unable to infect people with this virus, yet in the public’s panic they euthanized the poor beast when they could have isolated the dog until the disease passed out of its system. I am not the only one who thought this. There was a petition made by a smaller fraction of the public to save the dog. As a report done by CNN stated “It would be much easier to isolate or quarantine the dog just as they have the victim's husband," the petition stated, rather than forcing Romero and her husband to lose "one of the family.” (Sentence 4) If nothing else this could have been used to see if dogs were able to infect other mammals with Ebola. Yet in the general, frightened public outlook it was a danger. Then it got even more insane when the nurse recover, and came home the doctors who took care of her plan to sue her over the whole issue. This example of someone trying to take advantage of this situation is not alone in the news. In the USA, a company called HeroBuilders is making an Ebola nurse action figure. How the media covered Ebola left people distressed. To a general public, most of which was unsure of what Ebola even was, this new disease already seemed extremely dangerous. This nightmare only increased when the media started to feed false information to the nation. This was anything to Ebola being airborne to how people were coming back to life in Africa after dying of infections. As was explained early this is a load of bull crap, and isn’t the truth. Yet how can you expect the media to give you reliable coverage if they can’t even agree among themselves. Shepard Smith seemed to be a voice of reason among the other news caster. He was telling of most of the other new stations and his own station for their irresponsible coverage of Ebola. He is a news caster for fox news which, interestingly enough, has been the most unreliable source for Ebola coverage. This may have been attempting to cover their butts after the Ebola outbreak in America never occurred. He explained the best he could what Ebola really was and able to do without giving it a lot of hype. He showed that with some effort and good details most over reactions to the news can be avoided and simply handled. He gave a pretty good example of how to handle the news. It didn’t, however, last very long. The other news stations and casters stated that the hysterical they were causes was needed for the USA population to be aware and react to this disease. As it
