Early Years Stage Framework Vs Te Whariki

The Early Years Foundation Stage Framework and the Te Whariki are both similar and different. The EYFS is structured. It is a mandatory require for all early years’ provider in England. The education in England is more teacher led and making the children more school ready than anything else. Although play is emphasised in the EYFS, it is not a key component in the curriculum. Whereas, in the Te Whariki, play is emphasised more within the curriculum and is a key component. It takes a holistic approach which is child centred. Creative play is encouraged in their curriculum. The Te Whariki aims to develop citizens whereas the EYFS aim to prepare the children for work environments.
