Throughout my entire school career, I have been frustrated at my math classes, but it wasn’t that they were going too fast; it was that they were going too slow. Every opportunity to move ahead I was given, I used. When I was given the chance to move up from Algebra II to pre-calculus, I studied for hours every day up until the day of the test came. “Beep! Beep! Beep!” My head shot up out of my warm sheets and aimed towards the source of the sound. Diving to the foot of my bed, I put my alarm clock to sleep. I focused on the clock; the bright white light reading “4:29”. Swinging my legs off the side of the bed, I rubbed my eyes awake and walked out of my bedroom. After getting ready I sat down at my desk. By then it was five o’clock, and there was still any hour left before I needed leave for jazz. …show more content…
As my day progressed, I could only focus on math. My palms were sweating and shaking as I walked into Mr. Jones’s portable. Nervously, I sat down at a desk directly facing Mr. Jones and for half an hour, I discussed with him about my past math experiences, and the problems that could come with moving up in math. Once we finished discussing, he explained that he wrote some practice problems for me to solve. He handed me a sheet of white paper with a single problem written on it, “graph (x-3)2(x-1)(x+2)”. When I looked down at the problem, my mind went blank. Silence surrounded us as I sat there, staring blankly down at the paper. 15 minutes later, I handed him the paper with a random solution written on it. After failing a few more problems, we decided to stop the test. I thanked him for his time, and heaved my backpack onto my shoulders. Suppressing the tears that were welling up behind my eyes, I walked out of the room. As I stepped out into the sunlight, I couldn’t hold it back anymore, and tears came pouring out of my
