From Kindergarten to Year 2, students learn that observations can be organised to reveal patterns, and that these patterns can be used to make predictions about an occurrence. In Year 2, students describe the components of simple systems, such as, observing patterns of living and non-living things, structures and growth of organisms and the changes that occur on earth and the effects they have on living things. (Australian Curriculum , 2016). They will use counting and unofficial measurements to make, as well as compare observations. In Year 2, students will also be shown, and begin to understand that organising these observations in tables and diagrams, makes it simpler to display any patterns that are being formed, which will assist the children …show more content…
This demands a well-defined understanding of the meaning and concept of ‘pedagogy’ and how it is used by individual educators and services. Sarah states, “Quality teaching is defined as pedagogical practices that facilitate for diverse children and their access to knowledge, activities and opportunities to advance their skills in ways that build on previous learning, assist in learning, provide a strong foundation for further learning in relation to the goals of the early childhood curriculum” (Farquhar, 2003, 5) Effective pedagogy is reliant on a numeral amount of variables that incorporate the goal or purpose for what is being taught. For this very reason there is no factual approach on individuals teaching styles. To accommodate for diverse children and their personalities we will use an array of educational strategies that help the children to understand the concept of the unit. The 5E inquiry model for teaching and learning science, gives us the opportunity to take reasonable steps to ensure that the topic is understood by each child. (Living Smart , 2011)

The 5E’s consist of:

Engage — start with a lesson that captures children’s interest through an activity or question.
Explore — organise practical activities where children explore a concept or skill.
Explain — guide children to develop explanations for the experience after they have explored a concept or

    Reflecting on journal entry’s two readings for our course, I was compelled by three ideas in Worth and Grollman’s (2003) book. The first idea that captured my attention was about the “Young Children’s Inquiry” (YCI) framework.
