From reviewing and skimming through the syllabus and book the three items that I find the most interesting is Early childhood education as a profession, Health, Safety, and Communicating with Young children, and Modeling adult relationships in early childhood settings. I chose early childhood as a profession because it has always been my passion to work with children choosing this profession can’t just be a random choice it has to be something a person want to do. When it comes to working with children you have to be patient, nurturing, you must abide by certain rules in the work place as well as state laws. This is interesting to me because in order to work with children we have to follow certain protocol making sure the children are in a safe environment meaning making sure we are following procedures when it comes to the health of children making sure the environment is safe from any harmful chemicals, or other items that may harm the children, making sure there is adequate space for each child to move freely, making sure allergies are labeled making sure they are not getting anything that they are not supposed to get, we must follow sanitation procedures so that germs are not spread, this topic important in the early childhood field (Gonzalez-Mena, Janet, 2014, pp. 39-61). When it comes to communication with young children we as educator cannot talk at the children but talk to them by getting at their level and giving them a time to communicate what they are trying to say “istening to what a child says does not just mean hearing what they are saying verbally but also their facial expressions, and body language the text calls this holistic listening” (Gonzalez-Mena, Janet, 2014, p. 66). Children should not be confined to one space teachers should let the children move around freely and set limits for them to follow such as when they see a friend running in the classroom they can say “we use our walking feet in the classroom”. When children are able to move around and explore they learn many things. The next topic is about emergent literacy and developmental experiences in math and science I here many people say that these are their least favorite subjects I know that science is mine however, in order to make sure children are learning what they need to learn the educator must have some knowledge about the subject children love to explore so having learning areas that reflect each of these is very beneficial for children development. When it comes to emergent literacy as the text states “it is an ongoing process of becoming literate and language is caught not taught” (Gonzalez-Mena, Janet, 2014, pp. 360-361).
