Health care organizations have to manage economic, social, and financial barriers that affect the delivery of health care. These barriers can directly affect nursing care, for example decrease in nursing staff. Current issues and trends include patient-centered and family-centered care, generational diversity and the nursing shortage, and quality and safety education for nurses (QSEN) (Huber, 2014). Patient-centered and family-centered care aims to focus more on the patient’s experience than the actual illness creating a better sense of caring. To accomplish this, nurses can individualize the plan of care while the patient is hospitalized and customize discharge instructions specific to their illness and social situation. Generational diversity and the nursing shortage refers to the age difference in nurses causing different values and priorities in the work environment ultimately affecting nurse retention (Huber, 2014). Nurse Managers have to address this by trying to meet the needs of both generations in order to avoid a nursing shortage. The office I managed had nurses in their 30’s and nurses in their 60’s. It was important to keep communication and understanding forefront to eliminate conflict among the nurses. Lastly, the QSEN was created to address the needs of future nurses by educating them with the skills and beliefs to improve the quality and safety of the hospital where they work (Huber, 2014). The purpose of the QSEN was to teach nursing students to be competent in their skills to induce organizational culture and maintain patient safety to promote positive outcomes. All nurses complete yearly competencies to show proficiency in a particular task or policy. That is standard in any health care

1.The rules the nurse was trying to respect was “Act to safeguard the patient from the incompetent, abusive or illegal practice of any individual(Nursing Conduct in Pennsylvania).”That individual could even be a police officer. The nurse was only following the rules and the instructions his boss gave her. The patient was not under his arrest so he didn’t have his consent to take his blood considering he was unconscious. The other ruler she was trying to respect was “Safeguard the patient’s dignity, the right to privacy and the confidentiality of patient information(Nursing Conduct in Pennsylvania).” This act protects the patient from any harm being done to him without his say so.…

As well as the safety of their children because it impacts their lives as well because peers and others will make inappropriate comments about the lifestyle of their parents, which is why Charlotte is so concern about the children well-being. The video also clarifies why it is so difficult for elderly as well as teens to come out about their lifestyle in LBGT community because they do not want to be judged by others or called incongruous names for who they choose to have as a partner. Also, the case states how it is difficult for Mrs. Charlotte to find a job even after her great work ethic and her completion of the culinary training program and in the elderly video it stays how being LBGT was frowned upon back in the day and the same situation is going on with Mrs. Charlotte and her friends in this case.…

As mentioned in Nelson-Brantley & Ford (2017), “Organizational learning is the process of change in thought and action, embedded in and affected by the institutions of the organization” (p. 839). This process starts with a detailed analysis of the internal and external environment, as well as the organization’s readiness for change. In order to have successful change, the current attitudes of nursing leaders and staff need to be modified to emphasize the positive aspects of change (Nelson-Brantley & Ford, 2017). “After analysis, nurse leaders must use different styles of leadership to motivate, inspire and engage others in the process” (Nelson-Brantley & Ford, 2017, p. 836). Does patient-centered care benefit patients and their families? “Patient-centered care in healthcare is defined as care provision that is consistent with the values, needs, and desires of patients and is achieved when clinicians involve patients in healthcare discussions and decisions” (Constand, M. K., MacDermid, J. C., Dal Bello-Haas, V., & Law, M, 2014). Patient-Centered care can improve the quality of a patient's life, because we as nurses are focused on the holistic individual needs of the patient. Not just the outcomes of a treatment or what we think is best for the patient. We are also focused on the patients and the families input.…

Nurses are the largest component of the health care work force, with approximately 2.7 million registered nurses (RN) in the United States (Murray, 2013, p. 38). Of those nurses, there are three distinct generations: the baby boomers, generation X, and generation Y or the millennials. Generation X represents thirty-nine percent of the RN workforce, baby boomers thirty-two percent, and millennials twenty-six percent. It is estimated by 2020, the millennials will be fifty percent of the nursing work force (Douglas, Howell, Nelson, Pilkington, & Salinas, 2015, p. 11). Although each generation brings a specific skill set to team work in nursing, there is often conflicts between the generations due to misunderstandings and communication breakdowns that leads to poor patient outcomes, staff dissatisfaction, and increased staff turnover rates (Murray, 2013).…
