Throughout the year AVID has helped me learn organizational skills enormously. I say this because at the beginning of the year I didn’t know how I was going to complete all the work I received and I didn’t really understand the time management part. So as we started getting more and more homework, I found it was important to use your planner and to do your homework the night it was assigned. Several times I fell into a whole on Thursday nights, when we had binder the next day.…

In my Junior year of high school, I decided to apply to out of state colleges, since I did not want to be anywhere near home. In the middle of the semester, I realized, I did not enjoy the experience of being eighteen hours and forty-five minutes drive away from home or spend 4-5 hours on a plane. First and Foremost, I want to transfer from my current university because the Biomedical Engineering program has not yet been accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).Upon finding out about the accreditation status of my degree program, I decided I wanted to transfer to a school that has been accredited…

Being a nontraditional student it is essential you possess good time management skills. As a student, I have a full time job, a part time job, educational obligations, and volunteer coach in my local community. This may seem overbearing from the outside looking in, but by managing my time properly I can easily accomplish these things. I am a full time police officer, work part time as an armed security guard, coach baseball in a local youth league, and taking two classes at once while enrolled with Bethel University. This can appears to be a lot on one person, however by using effective time management skills it is very manageable.…

I had the pleasure of teaching Sara in her 11th grade honors English class at Mark Twain High School. From the first day of class, Sara impressed me with her ability to be articulate about difficult concepts and texts, her sensitivity to the nuances within literature, and her passion for reading, writing, and creative expression- both in and out of the classroom. Sara is a talented literary critic and poet, and she has my highest recommendation as a student and writer. Sara is talented at considering the subleties within literature and the purpose behind authors' works. She produced an extraordinary year-long thesis paper on creative identity development, in which she compared works from three different time periods and synthesized cultural and historical perspectives to inform her analysis.…

Technology can be arranged to fit any lesson plan and can also improve engagement because it something that children use on the daily basis within their homes. Meredith also incorporated technology very frequently in her lessons. She had students make mind maps on chrome books as well as type up story they wrote. When she would have one small group and the rest of the class would be working on other work she had spelling activities to be done on different learning apps on an iPad. I think this helps with keeping the children attentive in the classroom. This school is very technology savvy in their classrooms.…
