The case of Jane, a depressed single mother, provides an opportunity to study the components of behavior theory in terms of causes and conditions, target behaviors, modeling, and appropriate therapeutic techniques. Jane has lost herself. She suffers from frustration and a fair amount of guilt, coupled with insecurity about her job and her financial situation. She has anxiety caused by her perception of having lost control of her children and her life, yet it can be seen that much of her suffering is self-inflicted by some target behaviors such as poor time management, sporadic attendance at work, and lack of participation in enjoyable activities. These behaviors yield undesirable consequences, which perpetuates a deadly cycle in which Jane’s depressive symptoms are amplified and contribute to further dysfunctional behavior.…

Throughout film history, the concept of the unruly woman has not been used until recent times. Before women were portrayed in the same light as men, they were portrayed as proper women who did not use obscene language and did not partake in irrational behavior. Women were usually seen as damsel’s in distress, they were portrayed as weak individuals that served to convey a male’s masculinity. In the recent years, audiences can now see women taking on ‘male characteristics.’ Actresses like Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock, are now the lead roles in comedic movies without having them portrayed as weak individuals, proper ladies, or women that rely on males in order to get through tough times, however, even though unruly women do have the…

Even in high school there is hierarchy and I will discuss the effects of the lower class students and the culture shock of change, the desire to rise to the elite bourgeoisie class and the functionalist perspective.…

Some including Simon believed that as females entered the workforce, they would have access to criminal opportunities for crime including fraud, embezzlement, larceny, and forgery. It would seem logical that as any group of individuals were given greater access to something that the chance of something such as crime occurring could also increase. As females were given broader opportunities for employment, they may have also been given access to commit crimes. It could also be the case that some females felt the need to commit crimes in order to support their family and the greater access gave them the opportunity to do so that may not have been present before. Other theories held a feminist approach that the powerlessness of women in a male-dominated culture led to women offending.…

Reclaiming Critical Analysis: The Social Harms of “Bitch” “Sexism is the water we swim in, and we are the fish who cannot see it.” Sherryl Kleinman asserts in The Social Harms of Bitch: a piece where she analyzes how some women have recently attempted to “reclaim” the term “bitch” in popular culture and questions whether it is possible to endow a sexist term with a positive connotation. Women can say “bitches” in reference to her friends, say “sexy bitch” in a positive connotation, but despite anyone’s intentions, putting this word into the air makes men think it is acceptable to throw it around in their daily conversations. Feminists have gone on to note that “a woman’s preference of saying this word roots from internalized oppression, whereby…
