Shortly after his inauguration, he was able to end the Korean War in an armistice. He also was able to maintain Western alliances, and avoided any US military engagements in Laos and Vietnam (Davis, 2002). He was also able to stabilize relations with the USSR in a time where the Cold War was a very real threat (Davis, 2002). In many ways, Eisenhower’s leadership style during his presidency was similar to that of a navigator steering his ship way from would be troubling shores (Taupin, 2009). He had the ability to change course at the instant a crisis was detected (Taupin, 2009). This was due to his excellent ability to evaluate the likely outcomes of various strategies and situations that he saw pressing our nation. This foresight could not have come without having other great leaders by his side that helped him in his decision making
