Dwarf Galaxy Vs. Milky Way

Decent Essays
The dwarf galaxy, dubbed M60-UCD1, has a black hole in the center of it, similar to the Milky Way’s black hole. The key differences? The dwarf galaxy is 1/500 the size of the Milky Way, yet it’s black hole is 5 times larger than the Milky Way’s. A black hole is an object that collapses on itself due to its own gravity. It’s gravitational force is so strong that it can even pull in light. The popular theory, although evidence isn’t completely solid, is that this dwarf galaxy was once a part of a much bigger galaxy. Scientists believe that this bigger galaxy collided with the adjacent galaxy, M60. When they collided, this chunk broke off and is now on its own. There are many other dwarf galaxies out there that we know of, however none of which

A spiral galaxy is a certain kind of galaxy originally described by Edwin Hubble in his 1936 work The Realm of the Nebulae and, as such, forms part of the Hubble sequence. Spiral galaxies consist of a flat, rotating disc containing stars, gas and dust, and a central concentration of stars known as the bulge.(Sloan) Spiral galaxies resemble spiraling pinwheels, nearly 77% of space consists of spiral galaxies. Though the stars and other visible material contained in such a galaxy lie mostly on a plane, the majority of mass in spiral galaxies exists in a roughly spherical halo of dark matter that extends beyond the visible component, as demonstrated by the universal rotation curve concept. In the Hubble classification scheme: Spiral galaxies…

Should Pluto be a dwarf planet or a planet? There has been lots of debate on whether it should be a dwarf planet or a planet. Their is not a big difference between the dwarf planets and the planets. The only difference between the two is that a dwarf planet has an orbit around it which is not cleared out and the orbit around a planet is cleared out. Pluto has been a dwarf planet since 2006.…

The black hole paradox is an observational phenomenon that results from the combination of quantum mechanics and general relativity which suggests that physical information could permanently disappear in a black hole, allowing many physical states to devolve into the same state. Albert Einstein first predicted black holes in 1916 with the theory of relativity. The term “black hole” was coined in 1967 by John Wheeler and the first black hole was discovered in 1971. There are 3 types of black holes which are stellar black holes, supermassive black holes, and intermediate black holes. Black holes are some of the strangest and most fascinating objects found in outer space.…

As the core grew, the supernova occurred, leaving behind what astronomers called a neutron star, a compact star entirely made of neutrons and very dense, to the point of forcing out the space between atoms. This was supported by the detection of the Neutrinos by an underground detector in Japan. Just as amazing as the mystery of the origin of SN1987A, is the story behind its…

Before I fall asleep, I gaze up at the night sky and see the international space station pass by and the pristine Milky Way. I awake to the sunlight silhouetting the hill in front of me. It is 6:30 a.m. and relatively cool. Dad is cooking breakfast and my brother is still asleep, so I get my backpack prepared for the day’s journey. As I close my backpack, I notice a strange looking area behind the shrubs, so I walk over to investigate.…

It has about 200 blue stars and about 100 times bigger than Orion Nebula, but is the smallest spiral galaxy in the Local Group. It is believed that there are over 40 billion stars in the M33 and it is currently moving closer to the Andromeda (M31). It is believed that these two have tidally interacted in the past (“Triangulum Galaxy – Messier 33”). Some believe that there was a supermassive black hole in the center of M33 but it does not. The black hole is near the core of the…

WHITE DWARF White dwarves (also known as degenerate dwarfs), are stellar remnants mainly composed of electron-degenerate matter and are white in color. The have a solar mass of up to 1.4, beyond this point, beyond this point, the pressure being exerted by the individual atoms is not able to hold back the gravitational pressure pulling it together The star would collapse down to a more compact object, like a neutron star or a black hole.. White dwarves are very dense, their average density being about one million times denser than that of the sun. A single sugar cubed amount of white dwarf would weigh approximately one tonne. Its volume comparable to that of the earth, and it’s mass comparable that of the sun.…

It was found that these faint "stars" were not stars and were not only beyond our own galaxy, but were the most distant galaxies known Quasars are bright and are seen to vary at all energies. Having derived from radio discoveries, many quasars found interestingly do not emit radio waves in a detectable amount. Such are called quasi-stellar objects (QSO), but are lumped together in the category of quasar. In general, quasars actually are best seen and surveyed at X-ray (Finkbeiner 1992). While quasars have spectra similar to Seyfert galaxies, they tend to be farther away than Seyferts and appear point-like to the optical astronomer.…

Since Castor is in it’s red giant stage and is actually 6 stars combined, currently it would become either a black hole or neutron star. This is currently undecided as it is hard to tell in this current stage, Castor is a mass made up of 6 stars, which makes it even harder to decide what will happen after the first supernova, assuming there will be 6 of them. As each star goes through it’s supernova they can become a black hole, if even the first star going through it’s supernova turns into a black hole the gravity from it would pull all the matter around it into it, causing Castor to completely…

Using different techniques and manipulations of sounds, audiences are influenced by this and become more immersed in the film. Some manipulations that are used in various films that we viewed throughout the course are things such as voice over narration that acts as a bridge while not completely breaking the fourth wall. As well as the careful planning of what soundtrack to use, which help to increase the influence a particular scene has on an audience such as in the Red Detachment of Women. Finally the use of silence or quietness to create a feeling of unease that help set the tone or the seriousness of a scene, while also having implications on the meaning of the film. Filmmakers use these tools and other manipulations to set the tone of the film and subconsciously help plant or reinforce what the films message or meaning may be.…

Scientists attached a gold-plated disk carrying data on the human race, including photographs and music in case it should ever be found by an alien race. Voyager 1 is now 11 billion miles from our sun. If you have followed the news you know that NASA’s New Horizon just did a flyby of Pluto and it’s four moons in July of…

If it is not concerning enough that a black hole recently consumed a star the size of Earth’s sun, then take in perspective that on Tuesday May 5, 2015, Earth experienced a solar flare an incredibly high intensity. In this solar flare, radio communications on the Pacific islands and western North America were wiped out for an hour due to the magnetic polarity of these loops of hot burning gas “Tens of times the size of Earth” according to NASA. There are also many new things that America's scientist are discovering that have never existed before and are of unexplainable behavior. For example, scientists have recently discovered that asteroids that have rings.…
