Candidates at this level have to comprehend and know how to use systematic documentation, observation, and other strategies to influence a child’s development. Despite being a positive tool, assessment has often been used in harmful ways. In standard four, learning is complex, and it varies depending on the characteristics, age, and settings within which learning and teaching occur. It is at this level that candidates use supportive interactions and positive relationships as a basis for their work with kids and their families. Candidates must then use efficient tools to connect positively with children to influence their learning and development. At this level, kids are comprehending new concepts fast and this fosters communication and oral language. It is at this level that teachers must surpass their own basic knowledge to use the best resources including standard documents, Web resources, and books. They demonstrate reflective, knowledgeable and paramount perspectives on their work. Hence, this becomes a possibility through making informed decisions that incorporate knowledge from a wide range of sources. Lastly, standard seven entails early childhood field experiences. Clinical practices and field experiences are sequenced and planned for candidates to develop the skills, knowledge, and professional dispositions that are vital in fostering the learning and development of young children (Hamilton-Vaughan, 2010, p. 41).
