Comparison and Contrast Essay The stories “Cranes” and “The Sniper” show us the effects of war. The themes of “Cranes” and “The Sniper” are similar due to the war tearing people apart, however, they are different because in “Cranes” the compassion prevails, while in “The Sniper” survival wins over compassion. “The Scar”, by Kildare Dobbs, is a moving, emotional account of the bombing of Hiroshima, Japan. The author creates interest as well as suspense by using two storylines. One follows the experiences of a 15 year old Japanese girl, Emiko. The other, in great contrast, follows the story of an American co-pilot, Captain Robert Lewis, who was aboard the Enola Gay, a US Air Force B-29, that carried the first operational atom bomb. Throughout the narrative, the author switches back and forth between these two accounts which creates situational irony as the reader experiences both sides of the story, however, the two characters remain unaware of each other.…

One difference is how the main characters first felt about their rite of passage, like in “The Medicine bag” Martin felt uncomfortable and did not want to wear the medicine bag, but in the “Apache Girl’s Rite of Passage” Dachina was ready, happy, and excited throughout the whole Video. Also another difference is how they are narrated, for example in “The Medicine bag” the narrator is the main character, and in the “Apache Girl’s Rite of Passage” the video had a National Geographic narrator, also in “Cherokee Night Ritual Into Manhood” story it has a narrator that explains the story. Another difference is how long it takes like in “Cherokee Night Ritual Into Manhood” it takes one night, but in “Apache Girl’s Rite of Passage” it takes days. Also the “Cherokee Night Ritual Into Manhood” is different from “The Medicine Bag” because in “Cherokee Night Ritual Into Manhood” they are becoming a man, but in “The Medicine Bag” Martin is receiving the medicine bag…
