Abstract
Drosophila melanogaster is a small, common fly found near upripe and rotted fruit. It is one of the most valuable organisms in genetics research since they are practical, small and have a short life cycle of about two weeks (Arnini, 1996). We are demonstrating exactly how Drosophila flies are used to help determine the inheritance of the traits and understand the genetic variation for wing type and eye color. The F1 and F2 generations were obtained by performing simple …show more content…
All F1 produce double heterozygote offspring which are normal eyes and normal wings.

Table 2: In this punnett Square we see the F1 generation double heterozygote. Here is the cross between Sepia and Vestigial fruit flies to see the possible phenotypes produced in F2 generation. We are able to see the offspring traits showing normal eyes and normal wings, normal eyes. The ones in bold are the vestigial wings, sepia eyes and vestigial wings are double underlined .This shows the phenotypic ratio of 9:3:3:1.

Table 5: This punnett Square was performed between F1 double heterozygote. The cross is between Ebony (Black Body) and Vestigial fruit flies so possible phenotypes is produced for F2 generation. In this offspring it expresses phenotypic traits of normal body and normal wings, and the normal body and vestigial wings are seen in the bold lettering. The ebony body and vestigial wings are double underlined and Ebony body with normal wings are shown been underlined thus giving the phenotypic ratio of 9:3:3:1.
